The Art of the Table: Creating a Beautiful Table Without Making It Fussy

The tables we love most aren't necessarily the perfectly styled ones.

They're the tables surrounded by family and friends, covered with beautiful food, glasses being refilled and conversations that last far longer than expected.

At Ginja B, we believe setting a beautiful table is really about creating a feeling.

Begin with beautiful linen

Table linen instantly softens a setting and gives you a starting point for your colour palette.

Try a neutral tablecloth with coloured napkins, or let a beautiful patterned piece become the feature.

Our favourite approach is to mix rather than perfectly match.

Layer your table

Start with your dinnerware, then add glassware, serving pieces and linen.

Different textures make a table interesting — ceramic against linen, glass beside timber, woven pieces mixed with something a little more refined.

Add something natural

A vase overflowing with greenery is beautiful, but your centrepiece doesn't need to be elaborate.

A few branches in a favourite vase, bowls of lemons or seasonal fruit, small pots of herbs or simple flowers can be just as effective.

Finish with candlelight

Even during a daytime lunch, candles bring warmth to the table.

Scatter a few smaller candles between your serving pieces rather than relying on one large centrepiece.

Most importantly, leave room for the food — and the people.

Set the table. Pour the drinks. Gather your favourite people.
